You suddenly run into an old friend you haven’t seen in ages, or you discover that your significant other has been cheating on you right after getting home from work.
Sometimes, changes can be tiny, and other times, they can be really big.
Just like what occurred with Malissa Sergent Lewis last summer when she decided to take a different way to get to work.

One summer morning in 2016, Malissa Sergent Lewis found herself rushing to get to her job at an elementary school in Kentucky.
Malissa decided to take a back road instead of the main highway because she wanted to get there faster.
Malissa will always be thankful for your choice.

The only thing that could have made the road that day more complete was a trash bag.
But this wasn’t just a regular trash bag—it looked like it had a life of its own.
Malissa told The Dodo, “I was walking by a garbage bag when I thought, ‘Did that bag just move?’ So, I got a little closer, and sure enough, it was actually moving!”

Malissa was eager to tear open the bag and see what was inside.
She stepped out of the car and carefully walked over to the bag, unsure of what might be inside.
Malissa understood that since the bag was tied up, whatever was inside couldn’t have just ended up there by chance.
Malissa carefully ripped the corner of the bag to take a look inside.
What was inside was even more surprising.
There was a young dog who looked super excited to see me! As soon as I opened the door and he saw the light, he started wagging his tail like crazy. I couldn’t believe it,” Malissa told The Dodo.
The puppy was found in the middle of the road after someone put it in a trash bag. Even if the little kid had only been there for a moment, it would have felt like forever.
Although wearing a collar, the puppy lacked identification tags.
Malissa took her dog with her to class because she just couldn’t stand the thought of leaving him at home.

Finally, Malissa’s son returned the dog to her house. After that, he and Malissa took the puppy to the vet for a check-up and to get its shots.
How the puppy ended up in a bag by the side of the road is a mystery.
Malissa was anxious that someone might take the puppy or leave it behind, so she decided to contact animal control.
But no one came forward to claim the dog, and it was not reported lost.
Luckily, Malissa and her family have adopted the dog, so he will receive all the love and attention he deserves. But she just can’t understand why someone would do something so terrible.
How could anyone be so cruel to hurt an animal like that? It doesn’t matter who you are; everyone loves a puppy. Malissa shared with The Dodo, “If someone puts an animal, any animal, in a trash bag and leaves it on the side of the road, that person must be really heartless.”
