What does it symbolize when a person who passed away shows up in your dream?

Some individuals dream while others do not, or they simply do not recall dreaming.

But are dreams meaningful? While many believe that dreams are messages from unseen forces, some scientists argue that dreams are just the result of brain activity.

While we are asleep, our brains are anything but.

Dreams can be a reflection of our day or our fears. But what does it signify when we dream of someone who has passed away?

Dreams may be viewed as a way of grieving or transitioning in our lives. Healthline suggests it’s more about the latter.

These dreams often occur when we go through specific changes, like starting a new job, relocating, or meeting someone different.

The feeling it gives us is more important than the dream itself.

Rubin Naiman, a psychology Ph.D., dedicated a significant portion of his life to researching sleep patterns and habits. He suggests that… “Dream interpretation is about decoding the dream. It enlightens us and expands our awareness psychologically, [offering an] expansion of consciousness.”

So, dreaming of someone who is no longer alive may be related to the changes mentioned above and how those changes affect us.

A lot of contemporary neuroscientists believe during REM sleep, the brain is involved in maintenance tasks, and it accidentally ‘kicks up dust,’ visually. At that end, dreaming is considered totally meaningless.” On the other hand he explains, “The other end is that dreaming is more substantial than waking. And we see this in ‘dream cultures,’ such as the indigenous people of Australia, who believe dreaming is intrinsic to our spiritual existence.”

Experts categorize dreams into four groups.

  • One category is dreaming of a deceased person, which could be the brain’s way of processing grief.
  • If we didn’t reconcile with the deceased person before they passed away, we might feel guilty, leading to dreams of them.
  • Dream analyst Lauri Loewenberg suggests that dreaming of a deceased person could be a reflection of their behaviors that we see in ourselves.
  • Some experts view these dreams as a visit from the deceased person, especially if they appear happy or well-dressed in the dream. Feeling positive about the dream could mean the deceased person is saying ‘Hello.’

Dreams, regardless of our personal opinions, hold a profound and significant value. They frequently provide us with a glimpse into our innermost selves and our bond with those who have passed away, whom we encounter in our dreams.
