Simone Biles responds to critics about her hair, hours before winning her 8th Olympic medal
Despite being the most decorated U.S. Olympic gymnast with over 35 Olympic and World medals, as well as the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States, Simone Biles continues to face criticism from some individuals.
I am frustrated by the fact that Simone Biles’ hair is never styled properly. While everyone else on the team looks put together, she appears as if she just rolled out of bed.
Prior to the women’s gymnastics team finals, Biles, aged 27, posted a message for her critics on her Instagram Story.
The Olympic athlete shared a video with the caption, “Please refrain from commenting on my hair. It was styled, but the bus lacks air conditioning and the temperature feels like 9,000 degrees. Additionally, the journey lasts for 45 minutes.”
Biles posted a selfie on a different Instagram Story with the caption, “I’m going to hold your hand when I say this 💋 Next time you feel like commenting on a black girl’s hair, JUST DON’T.”
In the course of the competition, Biles has garnered numerous comments about her hair.
Numerous women typically choose to style their hair in a slicked back ponytail or bun, whereas Biles has been showcasing a more casual hairstyle.
USA gymnasts are required to maintain a well-groomed appearance and ensure that their hair is secured away from their face in order to maintain clear vision of the apparatus, as per the regulations.
Many individuals have disregarded the regulations and turned to social media to criticize Biles’ choice of hairstyle.
