Rodeo star’s 3-year-old son dies two weeks after tragic river accident.
Levi Wright, the young son of rodeo champion Spencer Wright, has tragically passed away.
The three-year-old suffered a traumatic brain injury following a near-drowning incident on May 21.
Levi was taken to a hospital in Salt Lake City after he accidentally drove a toy tractor into a river close to the family’s residence. Local authorities discovered him unconscious about a mile downstream.
Initially, he was declared brain dead and not expected to pull through, but there were signs of improvement.
“LEVI WOKE UP! I am in shock; we don’t have all the details yet, but the doctor said it’s okay for me to feel excited about this, and I AM! My little warrior is so strong!” his mother, Kallie Wright, shared on Facebook.
The next day, the MRI results came back, and they weren’t what we had hoped for.
“We’re heartbroken, but remember, these are just images that hint at a certain quality of life. The true indicator will be Levi’s progress in the coming days,” Kallie expressed.
While Levi bravely battled in the hospital, his loved ones kept rallying for prayers.
On June 2, Kallie delivered heartbreaking news.
“After many sleepless nights, extensive research, numerous discussions with top neurologists, and countless prayers, we are now confronting our greatest fear,” she shared. “Levi gave us just enough hope to buy us some time. We had hoped that his signs meant he was fighting to stay with us, but we now understand he was giving us the time we needed to come to terms with letting him go.”
Following endless tests, scans, and consultations, the Wright family made the difficult decision to take Levi off life support.
The next day, June 3, a family friend, Mindy Sue Clark, shared on Facebook the heartbreaking news that Levi had passed away.
“I can hardly express how challenging the past two weeks have been. From the moment my phone rang the night of his accident to receiving the news last night that he had to leave us. I don’t want to dwell on the sorrow, even though it feels like my heart has been torn apart. Instead, I want to celebrate the many miracles we witnessed during those 12 days.”
“He was the most wonderful three-year-old imaginable. So wonderful that we couldn’t keep him with us. This little boy moved mountains in those 12 days. He united so many people. In a world filled with darkness, we were able to see the light through a child. He was everything his parents could have ever hoped for.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Wright family during this incredibly tough time.
