Officer Ryan Tillman, a cherished school resource officer at Don Lugo High School in California, discovered a creative way to say goodbye to the students.

After forming meaningful connections throughout his tenure, Tillman was preparing to leave his role following his promotion to Chino Police Corporal.

Rather than a standard heartfelt farewell, Tillman chose to make it a moment to remember.

Collaborating with the school’s principal and dance team, Officer Tillman organized a surprise dance performance during a school assembly.

Officer Tillman shared his thoughts with NBC Los Angeles about his memorable farewell, saying,

“I wanted to make a big exit, so I thought, what better way than to dance?”

He aimed to leave a lasting impression, creating a joyful and unforgettable moment rather than just saying goodbye.

As the assembly kicked off, the energy in the gymnasium surged when Tillman joined the dance students on stage. The atmosphere electrified as Lil Mama’s “Lip Gloss” began to play, signaling the start of the dance.

While it might seem out of the ordinary for a police officer to perform in front of high schoolers, Officer Tillman proved he was more than just a badge—he had some serious moves!

The students erupted in applause as Tillman displayed his dancing skills.

Another school resource officer praised Tillman’s bravery, saying,

“I’m also an SRO, but I could NEVER get up in front of staff and students to dance. Kudos to you for doing it. Many people don’t realize the balance SROs must strike with young people at their schools.”

But the performance didn’t stop there.

Halfway through, the music switched to MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This,” and Tillman took the audience on a nostalgic trip, executing classic 90s dance moves.

He flawlessly performed MC Hammer’s shuffle, earning even more cheers from the crowd.

The excitement in the room escalated as Tillman continued to engage the audience with various songs and routines.

What made it even more remarkable was that he kept pace with the other dancers while fully dressed in his police uniform.

One viewer perfectly captured the moment: “This is awesome! We need to see more of this.”

Officer Tillman’s performance was not just a source of entertainment for the students; it showcased his playful side and his commitment to fostering positive relationships within the school community.

He expressed that his aim was to show appreciation to both the students and staff while also “highlighting the positive aspects” of police officers, as reported by NBC Los Angeles.

Tillman is passionately dedicated to enhancing relationships within the community.

He established Breaking Barriers United, an organization focused on “closing the gap between law enforcement and the communities they serve.”

The mission of the group is to encourage transparency and build strong relationships between officers and the public.

The video of Officer Tillman’s farewell dance has gone viral, winning over many hearts.

One viewer shared their thoughts, saying,

“Every city needs a cop like you! Great job!”

Although farewells can be bittersweet, Officer Tillman’s lively and imaginative performance made his send-off much more enjoyable and less sorrowful.
