When this actor was just 15 years old, he sat in a car with his uncle, who was a famous filmmaker in Hollywood. He pleaded with him for a chance to be in one of his amazing award-winning movies.

“Give me a screen test, I’ll show you acting. There was just silence in the car,” said the star, who’s proudly bizarre both on and off screen.

At just 17 years old, the actor started his journey to fame by landing a small part in the popular 1982 movie, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, which has become a classic about growing up.

“I was the brunt of jokes because my name was still Coppola,” says Nicholas Cage, who was born in 1962 as Nicholas Kim Coppola.

Some people kept saying stuff like, “I love the smell of Nicolas in the morning,” because of the movie Apocalypse Now. It was really distracting, and I thought, “I don’t want to deal with this,” so I decided to drop the last name and just go with Cage instead, the star shares about why he wanted to separate himself from his famous relative, Francis Ford Coppola.

He explains why he picked the name Cage by saying, “I combined Luke Cage from Marvel comics, a character I really liked who is also called Power Man, with John Cage, the experimental composer. This really shows what I’ve been doing all this time.”

His first starring role with Cage as his last name came in 1983’s Valley Girl and the anonymity he said made him feel as if he “had this weight come off my body.”

“I can’t believe I actually did it! That experience made me feel so free,” he shared with Hollywood Reporter. “You can totally see that freedom in Valley Girl. But in Fast Times and even Rumble Fish, I felt a bit trapped,” he explained, mentioning his role in the 1983 movie Rumble Fish, which was directed by his uncle.

Over the next several years, Cage worked in back-to-back films, earning the reputation as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors.

In 1988, he earned Golden Globe nominations for Moonstruck with Cher and Honeymoon in Vegas with Sarah Jessica Parker.

In that same year, he met actress Christina Fulton. Later, in December 1990, she had their first son, Weston Coppola Cage. Weston is also an actor and played the younger version of his dad in the 2014 movie Rage.

Nicolas Cage won an Oscar for his performance in Leaving Las Vegas back in 1995. He has a son named Kal-El, which is actually Superman’s real name, who was born in 2005 with his third wife, Alice Kim. He also has a daughter named August Francesca, who was born in 2022 with his fifth wife, Riko Shibata.

Cage was also famously married to Patricia Arquette (1995 to 2001) and Lisa Marie Presley (2002), whom he filed for divorce only months later.

Speaking with People, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent actor says that family comes “first and foremost.”

Nick Cage always wants to be with his kids. No matter what, he puts his family ahead of his job, according to the actor from Raising Arizona.

He said, “I said no to Lord of the Rings and Matrix because I didn’t want to spend three years in New Zealand or Australia. I really needed to be at home with my son Weston, and that’s the truth.”

Offering evidence to that, actor Minnie Driver once said: “Was once on a plane with [Nicholas Cage] and his son and a seat had also been purchased for his son’s imaginary friend.”

The Adaptation star still has a strong connection with his kids and two of his grandkids, Lucian, who was born in 2014, and Sorin, born in 2016. He shares them with his second wife.

“He can do things I dream about doing…compose music, sing, act, sculpt and cook and now he is a loving father,” Cage said of Weston, the former lead of two heavy metal bands. “To see my son with my grandson is as close to a sense of blissful completion I ever had.”

The star of D-Day, who is 33 years old, has been married three times. He has twin daughters named Cyress and Venice, born in 2020, with his third ex-wife, Hila Arounian.

But the kids don’t know any members of their famous Hollywood family.

Following an ugly divorce in 2021, TMZ reports that Hila was granted “sole legal and physical custody of their twin daughters…with Weston getting no visitation rights.”

Explaining the distressing details, Weston’s mom Christina tells the U.S. Sun, that Hila has created a “hostile environment,” which includes “a request for a restraining order against her seeing the kids that was dismissed” in 2023.

“As a dignified and respectful family in Hollywood, we are really shocked and upset by Hila’s actions. It’s heartbreaking that we haven’t been able to see our two lovely granddaughters since they were born,” Christina explains about the negative campaign Hila started against them. “We’re stuck in a terrible nightmare. It’s just crazy, painful, and really hurtful. I have a wonderful bond with my two grandsons, and my son shares a great relationship with his boys too.”

Christina adds, “Not meeting the girls is painful, hurtful, and shocking.”

Defending herself, Hila shares a note on Facebook, explaining that her ex cheated several times and was “weaponizing influence, wealth,” turning “the legal system against” her.

Christina is called a “sabotaging mother,” and when talking about Weston’s mental health issues and addictions, she describes Cage as an “enabling father” who “always got in the way of his improvement.”

Hila does not mention anything about denying the family visitation with the twins, only that Weston’s “behavior became a physical threat to our daughters and me, as well as our emotional well-being.”

Christina reveals the Cage/Coppola family isn’t backing down: “In these trying times, our family’s resilience is tested. But we remain committed to overcoming these challenges and restoring our family’s harmony.”
