For many kids, when the day is over, it’s time to take a bath, and having lots of toys in the tub makes it even more fun.
An Illinois mother is alerting other parents about a bath toy that might look safe but can actually be harmful. Her young son suffered a terrible injury that could make him lose his vision.
Eden Strong was giving her 2-year-old son Baylor a bath when she saw that his eye looked red and irritated. At first, she thought it was just because he got some water in it, but after the bath, Baylor’s eye seemed to get even worse.
Her son had a bad case of cellulitis, which is a serious bacterial infection of the skin. In only 12 hours, his eye changed from being pink to looking really infected.

She shared on Facebook, which has now become super popular, “His eye was sticking out from his face. It looked really weird. He had a really high fever.”
“I cried the entire drive to a larger hospital, praying that he wouldn’t lose his eye.
The following week was really frightening. He got a bad case of cellulitis that spread all over his face and even affected both of his eyes. They told me he might lose sight in the worse eye, but thankfully, his eyes ended up healing in the end.
The cause of Baylor’s horrific eye injury was a squirting bath toy.

She mentioned that she learned later on that those kinds of toys never completely get rid of the water, which means they can end up growing bacteria that you can’t really prevent.
Eden shared some really surprising photos of her son’s injuries on Facebook to alert other parents. Since then, her post has been shared by 192,000 people! She also received a ton of messages from other parents sending in pictures of their kids who had gone through similar problems.
Strong said she hopes manufacturers will take this issue into consideration when producing bath toys.

She has since thrown all Baylor’s squeezable toys away.
I really find those toys to be adorable. They’re enjoyable to play with, inexpensive, and simple to use, but I don’t think they’re worth it.
What a fright this family went through, I’m so glad Baylor has recovered.
Please share to warn other parents.
