Finding wax in the keyhole of your door could be a warning.
After discovering red wax in the keyhole of her front door, a user on the internet realized she might have been targeted by someone with harmful intentions. She has since warned others to be cautious.
About a year ago, a Reddit user posted a picture of her lock, which had red wax oozing from the keyhole, seeking advice and support from the online community.
“I don’t have anything on my key that could cause this, but I did notice some wax on the tip after I took the key out this morning,” the user explained. “I’m a bit worried that someone might have tampered with my lock last night.”
The online community quickly filled the comments with their thoughts and suggestions.
Warning over wax in the door..
One user wonders, “Did someone maybe drop their lipstick cap in a purse with the keys?” Another chimes in, suggesting it could be a child’s doing: “Are there any kids around? My little one would totally stick crayons in everything.”
On the flip side, some people think the wax discovery is more alarming. “If you shove a red crayon into a lock, it can create a crayon key that can be easily copied. You should definitely change your locks ASAP,” warns one commenter.
Another adds, “You need to change the lock; they’re trying to make a duplicate key.”
Then there’s a user who found melted wax in a door’s keyhole while flipping houses, sharing a chilling experience: “I went to unlock the door and saw something that looked like white lipstick covering the lock. I noticed it on other houses too.” This user, known as Atllas66, explains that he contacted crime check and learned it’s a tactic used by squatters or burglars to figure out who is using their keys.
In essence, it helps intruders keep an eye on whether a house is occupied.
