Numerous animals face the dangers associated with cold weather, similar to humans. They are at risk of ailments such as hypothermia and frostbite, making it particularly commendable when individuals take extra measures to ensure their warmth.

Similar to the farmer who devised an innovative and unexpected method to save the life of a freezing calf.

Dean Gangwer operates a cattle farm in Rossville, Indiana. On a brisk morning in 2015, he discovered an unexpected new feature on his property.

He was completely unaware that one of his cows had calved during the night. Unfortunately, the calf was born atop a snow mound, leaving the newborn exposed to the frigid temperatures.

Dean fought to maintain his alertness as he observed the calf breathing laboriously. In a desperate effort to rescue the cow, he hurriedly transported it to his residence.

Drawing upon his expertise in cattle care, he concluded that the calf needed a warm bath. Fortunately, Dean had his hot tub prepared, which was perfectly suited for a cow-sized bathing experience.

As strange as it may sound, the strategy was a huge success.

After I entered the water fully dressed, Leroy and I enjoyed a delightful hour-long bath during which I supported him to ensure his safety from drowning, Dean stated to WRTV. “We emerged feeling warm, and I believe the conclusion of this story will be very positive for him.”

After the soothing session in the jacuzzi, cozy, heated blankets were wrapped around the farmer’s calf.

The calf is named Leroy. The cow was promptly readied to return to the herd once his body temperature had stabilized.

The farmer’s choice to allow the cows to use his hot tub was a considerate and prompt action that aided in the rescue of the small cow; however, he indicates that such occurrences will be rare.

Leroy has finished his time in the hot tub,” he announced. “While his hot-tubbing days are certainly behind him, he might still enjoy sunbathing on the grass from time to time in the future.”
