Every day she hears loud noises from the garage, when her hubby’s secret is revealed, she’s in tears
Brad Soden has experienced a lot in his life.
A former soldier from the United States fought in the first Iraq war and later became a fireman, where he helped save many lives after finishing his military service.
Brad, his wife, Liz, and their three children, live in Phoenix, Arizona.
For a long time, Brad was living his best life. But everything turned upside down on August 15, 1999 — the day the accident happened.
Brad and Liz were in their truck with their kids. Liz was behind the wheel when suddenly the left front tire popped. She couldn’t keep the truck steady and ended up going off the road.
Fortunately, the couple’s three sons only got some small bruises. Brad had it a little tougher since he broke his leg. However, the worst news was for Liz; she broke her back and lost the ability to move her legs.
Liz was taken to the hospital quickly for an operation, and when she finally woke up, the doctors told her what was wrong with her.
Liz felt like her life was falling apart. She was worried that Brad, her boyfriend, would choose someone else who was more “normal” than her.
Brad’s response? He got down on his knee and proposed right there at the hospital.
Of course, Liz said “yes” and the couple was soon married.
Liz’s road to recovery was long and her entire family supported her in her process.
Liz is a really tough person, but moving to her new life in a wheelchair was super hard for her. It was especially tough because one of the things her family loved to do together was hiking.
After the accident, Liz wanted to keep up with her friends, but she soon understood that her wheelchair couldn’t handle the bumpy trails she used to enjoy hiking on.
On one occasion when the family was out following a moose trail, Liz was forced to stay behind on the flat road.
She had tears streaming down her face as she urged her family to continue. Seeing that made Brad’s heart ache, and he promised himself he would never let it happen again.
While he was in the army, Brad served as a maintenance technician, taking care of and cleaning tanks.
His job inspired him to build a special wheelchair for Liz: an off-road-capable wheelchair that would allow Liz to join the rest of the family wherever they went.
But it was easier said than done.
Brad would spend a lot of time in the garage, sometimes for days without going outside. There were moments when he got really frustrated, too.
The neighbors and Liz became accustomed to the loud sounds coming from the garage.
Brad’s big task? To create a quiet electric engine that can operate in the wild and at camping spots.
After spending so much time working on it, Brad finally figured out the answer. He invited Liz to the garage and amazed her with a one-of-a-kind wheelchair that had tank treads!
Brad’s invention caught a lot of attention. His all-terrain wheelchair amazed many people, including the leaders of the high-tech company NPC Robotics.
The company backed Brad and created a prototype using his design. Thanks to advanced technology, Liz’s new wheelchair is silent, speedy, and perfect for off-road adventures.
Nowadays, Brad and the kids have trouble keeping up with Liz when the family goes for a hike…
Wow, what an amazing invention! Brad has not only expressed his huge love for Liz, but he’s also proven that he’s creative and determined enough to tackle any challenge!
