Bride demands her bridesmaids pay for the dresses she bought for the ceremony, but karma hits back.

Being asked to be a bridesmaid is truly a wonderful honor, as it signifies that the bride cherishes your friendship and wants you to share in one of the most significant moments of her life.

Yet, a common question arises: should the bridesmaids pay for their dresses, or is that the bride’s responsibility? Many argue that since the bride selects her bridesmaids, she should take care of the costs. This was the belief held by the friends of a bride-to-be named Emily, until they were surprised with the request to cover the expenses for dresses that were quite pricey.

In the weeks leading up to the big day, Emily unveiled the gorgeous dresses to her friends; they featured soft colors, intricate lace designs, and exquisite embroidery. The fabric was so luxurious that it felt like a second skin.

One of the friends remarked while trying them on that they must be incredibly expensive, to which Emily smiled and replied that they were worth every penny since she only gets married once.

The ceremony unfolded in a lovely garden under a floral arch that seemed to have come right out of a fairy tale. As Emily walked down the aisle, she said “I do” to the man of her dreams, creating a moment that felt like it was suspended in time.

The reception hall was alive with laughter and music, the elegant ballroom radiating joy. Chic centerpieces adorned the tables, while twinkling fairy lights above added to the enchanting ambiance.

Emily shared her first dance with her husband, and everything seemed picture-perfect… until she invited her bridesmaids to join her on the dance floor. As they danced with abandon, Emily exclaimed, “You all look stunning! Thank you for being a part of this special day… and just a quick note about your dresses—they were $1,200 each, so you can either pay in cash or settle it tomorrow via bank transfer.”

The bridesmaids were taken aback. They halted their dancing and fixed their eyes on Emily.

One of them remarked that they thought the dresses were a present from her, as she hadn’t said anything about them needing to cover the costs. Moreover, the dresses were quite expensive, far beyond what they would have been comfortable paying if they had been asked before accepting their roles as bridesmaids.

Emily was taken aback and mentioned that she thought they were aware the dresses were meant for them.

The uncomfortable silence was broken by two young men bringing in a massive ten-tier cake. Emily hurried over to them, expressing her surprise that she hadn’t requested a cake with that many tiers, but they confirmed that she had. Unsurprisingly, it was significantly more expensive than the three-tier cake she had originally considered. After a brief conversation, they presented her with a copy of her order. It seemed she had likely made an error while placing it, and now she was responsible for the cost.

Her bridesmaids believed it was a swift dose of karma, yet they still expressed their sympathy for their friend, assuring her that while they wouldn’t cover the cost of the dresses, they would chip in for her cake.

Emily beamed and expressed her gratitude. They reminded her that life isn’t solely about finances, but rather about true friendship, respect, and understanding.

This situation sparked a debate among people regarding whether the bride should be responsible for the costs of the bridesmaids’ dresses.

One person remarked, “The bride and groom cover all the expenses for the wedding party.” Another chimed in, “My bridesmaids won’t be paying for anything. I asked them, so it’s not fair to expect that.” A third individual mentioned, “I’m taking care of my bridesmaids’ dresses, hair, makeup, bags, and jewelry, while the girls will handle their own shoes.”

Someone pointed out that it varies by culture and location. “In Ireland, the bride typically pays. I’ve attended five weddings in the US where I had to cover my dress, shoes, hair, makeup, and more. That doesn’t seem to be the case here.”

Others highlighted that there are no strict guidelines, leaving it to the bride and her bridesmaids to decide what works best for them.
