92-year-old man wants to hold wife’s hand one final time before dying – what happens next will bring you to tears

A tear-jerking photo of an elderly Chinese couple, who were married for almost seven decades, holding hands while both in the intensive care unit has gone viral, touching millions of people across the globe.

As reported by New China, the photograph was captured and disseminated by Wang Yanfang, the chief nurse of the intensive care unit at Yinzhou Hospital in Zhejiang Province, located in eastern China.

Feng Ming, the 92-year-old husband, was initially admitted to the intensive care unit due to heart failure.

Regrettably, his health declined further as additional organs began to fail, ultimately leading to a lung infection.

Feng ended up not being able to talk, and was being kept alive by a life support machine.

Recognizing that he was approaching the end of his life, the family made the decision to discontinue therapy and bring him home. However, he had one last wish before leaving the hospital: to see his wife, with whom he had shared 66 years of marriage.

Zhang Ping, Feng’s 95-year-old spouse, was also hospitalized, receiving treatment for a fractured femur on a different floor.

Wang, the head nurse, informed New China: “The visiting hours for the ICU are from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm, but given the severity of Feng’s condition, we could not wait until then.” He took the initiative to arrange a special meeting for the elderly couple, which could potentially be their final encounter.

At Wang’s request, Feng’s wife was transported on a stretcher from the 14th floor to the ICU on the third floor, where they shared their last moments together.

Wang shared the touching account, noting that Feng’s wife held her husband’s hand and spoke to him in their native dialect, reassuring him: “Do not worry about me. You can be assured that I will take good care of myself.”

Feng was crying when hearing her words, and eventually passed away in the comfort of his own home several hours later. “We made an exception for the elderly couple to meet so that the touching moment can happen and be preserved, I am grateful that we made a right choice,” Wang said.

This story is so devastating and heartwarming at the same time. Though, it is comforting to know that Feng and Zhang had been in each other’s lives through thick and thin, and stayed so in love with each other even until the very end. That really is true love.
